As publisher and editor of The Catalina Islander, I was responsible for the weekly newspaper serving the residents and visitors of Catalina Island. I managed staff as well as wrote stories, edited copy and developed marketing campaigns for advertisers.

I attended California State University Long Beach until 1992, receiving my Bachelor of Art degree in Magazine Journalism. While there I was editor of both college newspapers and a staff writer on the college magazine. I received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the California Intercollegiate Press Association and was named Distinguished Writer for my graduating class.
